WasteArc / Field operations platform

From paper rounds to one live platform.

WasteArc is for commercial waste operators. Genius Digital Labs designed and built an office portal, a native iOS driver app and a shared cloud backend for FJL Recycling, replacing paper run sheets with one live, multi-tenant system for bookings, routes, completions and shift reports.

01 The brief

Replace bookings, routes and shift records held on paper.

A logistics business without a live operational picture.

FJL Recycling was managing bookings in spreadsheets and routes on printed run sheets. A driver's day was reconstructed from phone calls at close of play.

The office could not see what had been collected as it happened. Drivers had no single place to view stops, record a completion, capture a weight or flag a problem from the cab.

The brief was to replace that paper trail with one system trusted by the office and the driver, then make the underlying product reusable for another operator.

02 The approach

One platform built around two distinct working environments.

An office portal, a cab app and a shared backend.

The office works in a browser all day. A driver may have one gloved hand free. WasteArc gives each user a surface designed for that setting, over a Node API and Azure SQL backend where every record is scoped to a company.

Staff import bookings, manage drivers and vehicles, watch routes progress live and read completed shifts in the Hub. Drivers use the native iOS app for the vehicle pick, odometer reading, DVSA walkaround check, route, job completion and end-of-day report.

03 The product

The day's work moves through one system.

From booking import to completed shift.

Bookings arrive as a CSV export. Staff drop the file into the Hub, watch each row import with its own progress and keep a timestamped history for the company. The dashboard then shows jobs due, completed and pending, alongside the live route board.

At the start of a shift, the driver signs in with one tap, picks a vehicle from the fleet, records the odometer and completes the DVSA walkaround check. The interface uses large targets, high contrast and minimal typing, because it is used standing in a yard, not sitting at a desk.

At close of play, nothing needs chasing. The office reads back the driver, vehicle, jobs, mileage, fuel and incidents in one place, from records made at the moment the work happened.

04 The outcome

Live operations, with the next tenant designed in.

One source of truth from office to cab.

WasteArc is running for FJL Recycling on Azure SQL and Vercel with real drivers, vehicles and routes in the system. The iOS driver app is in TestFlight beta with real drivers, and an App Store submission has been made.

Bookings, routes, completions and shift reports now sit in one platform. Because every record is company-scoped, another operator can be added as a tenant through configuration rather than a separate codebase.

The day's work now lives in one system, from office to cab, rather than on a clipboard reconstructed at close of play.
