The Genius Index / Method

How the rankings are decided.

Most top 10 sites are affiliate farms wearing an editorial costume. This one has a simpler deal: human judgement, clear criteria, declared interests, and a standing invitation to argue with us.

  1. 01

    Editorial judgement first

Every list is argued over by editors who build, buy from and compete in these markets. No algorithm assembles these tables, and no company can pay its way onto them. If a ranking cannot be defended out loud, it does not ship.

  2. 02

    Service breadth and real capability

We weigh what a company can genuinely deliver: coverage, accreditations, specialisms and the depth behind the promises. A beautiful website with a thin operation does not survive contact with this test.

  3. 03

    Review signals, read sceptically

Public reviews, industry reputation and word of mouth all feed in, corrected for volume, astroturf and the usual five-star noise. Patterns matter more than averages.

  4. 04

    Response quality

How a company answers the phone, quotes a job and behaves when something goes wrong counts for more than any badge on its homepage. Where we can, we test this the way a customer would: by asking.

  5. 05

    Interests declared, every time

Genius Digital Labs owns or partners with some companies that appear in these lists. Those entries are marked with a star on every list, every mention, no exceptions. We rank them because we back them; you get to judge us on whether the position holds up.

  6. 06

    Revisited quarterly

Markets move and so do the tables. Every list is re-argued four times a year: number ones get relegated, new entrants earn their way in, and stale listings are removed.

The disclosure

The Genius Index is published by Genius Digital Labs, which owns stakes in, operates or partners with 9of the companies currently listed across the index. Each one carries a star wherever it appears. Their blurbs face the same scrutiny as everyone else's, and if one stops deserving its slot, it moves, in public, at the next quarterly revision.
